Reflection on Group Presentations

Group 1, Chapter 3 Intercultural Communication

Group 1 presented chapter 3 Intercultural communication. This chapter mainly focuses on the relationship between culture and communication. In the book, "COMM Speech Communication" written by Deanna D are titled Culture and Communication, Dominant Cultures, Co-Cultures, Cultural Identity, How Cultures Differ, and Developing Intercultural Communication Competence. Looking back at our group presentation, we began with a brief introduction on what our whole chapter was about. A small introductory summary created by our group leader. Our first pages on the presentation were mainly about how traveling and studying abroad brought a sense of unity when learning about values and norms of each country. Our presenter was very well spoken and had great organization when speaking about her topic. As this presenter did, all of our group members had a role in their highly coordinated presentations. All giving their all and explaining every detail about this chapter to its full extent. Furthermore, this chapter was very informative, giving everyone unique topics to talk about. This brought everyone's attention due to how interesting studying abroad an speaking to people from different culture is. As well as learning about culture, it gave us a broad perspective on dominant cultures, co-cultures, and cultural identity. These expand on the idea of religion, sexual orientation, and much more. It gives the presenter a wide understanding on what to focus on in terms of cultural identification. People from different cultures will receive these accepted traits as something out of the ordinary and may consider them as an anomaly compared to the United States. The slides following this one have a variety of pictures. This method of presenting can also help audience members who have difficulty in learning by providing them with pictures. I myself am one of these visual learners. The lack of words in the presentation fully help the presenter elaborate and process words that could overly simplify it for an audience member. This method can be a good way to explain a chapter, given the fact that is told by a fellow peer. In conclusion, everyone in group 1 did their best. Everything was properly said, organized, and presented to its capacity.

Group 2, Chapter 9 Communicating in Groups

Group 2 presented Chapter 9 "Communication in groups." This chapter analyzes the ideal ways to communicate in groups. Just like group 1, they incorporated a concise summary in which details the key points about the entire chapter. It was very well executed and mostly caught people attention. It had a lot of pictures which I fully appreciated. Like I have said before, pictures mostly help people who have difficulty in learning through reading. Everyone explained their slides very well and I gathered information I have never heard before. One detail I have not stated, was the use of videos. Well put videos have an impact on a presentation. It gives further information that the presenter might have missed. Through the use of videos, the presenter can explicate everything about their chapter in utter perfection and precision. The presenter used his own input on how healthy groups work, along side lists and summaries that pertain in the view of a "healthy group." The presenter spoke on how people have to hold accountability on their mistakes. Everything wrong about a group has to come with some sort of proper explanation. No group can contain its good condition by holding in secrets and conflicts. Reverting back to the cultural differences, each group has their own way of resolving their own problems. Depending on their cultures, they will resolve their conflicts using their own methods and people have to come in terms with it. Not everyone was born the same way or in this case, has been raised in the same culture. This was explained very well by the second group, who gave a good explanation on how groups work as a whole. As a result, their presentation was well prepared and everyone had excellent participation.

Group 3, Chapter 10 Group Leadership and Problem Solving

Group 3 presented Chapter 10, "Group Leadership and Problem Solving." Just like the other groups, this one also has a brief explanation on what the entire chapter was going to be about. Once the presentation started, it immediately began with multiple important details about its chapter. The presenters took no time to begin which I personally admire. the direct nature of the way of presenting was very interesting to me. Along with the fast and precise introduction, they had multiple pictures to fully capture all of their information. This helped the audience visualize every small detail in their presentation which was a very good tactic to teach. This group went over the types of roles involved in proper leadership such as maintenance roles, procedural roles and task roles. They presented definitions and fully fledged explanations regarding these roles. I am sure that even their own group has some sort of organizational procedures described in the book. This chapter is all about leadership and problem solving, which ultimately leads to their group grasping on to some of the techniques.  With this all stated, this team had done a very good job in explaining everything due to the leaders skills. Everything was taught very well and also had a very cohesive presentation. In conclusion, this group had used their learnt skills into action by providing a really good presentation with presenters who elaborated their slides to near perfection. I personally was very intrigued with the presentation because they taught the audience something that I lack, which are leadership skills.

Reflection Conclusion

Everyone has done such a great job by providing their peers with accurate and well-elaborated information. I was very interested in everything being taught to me because it was organized and clear to me. The use of videos and pictures helped me further understand what was being said, which is a great deal to my way of learning. Everyone reached their goal in giving a great presentation, and their hard work was definitely put into perspective.
